Dear Friends of democracy and parliamentary diplomacy!
 

Welcome on the new website of FP-AP, the Association of former Parliamentarians of the member States of the Council of Europe.

This website is an expression of the priority we choose for the term 2024-26, when I have the honour to chair FP-AP (Former Parliamentarians-Anciens Parlementaires), aiming at a better communication on our activities and our documents, but also aiming at a better public understanding of the deep values and purposes of our association.
 

We are the only European association (with our sister, representing the former members of the European Parliament, which in turn is also member of FP-AP) ideally uniting all former people’s elected representatives of all the peoples sharing the democratic values of the Council of Europe. 

This large movement no only wants to promote friendship and exchange between its numerous national associations, and friendship between all former parliamentarians of Europe, but also commits itself for transmitting the lifelong political experience of its members to the new generations who choose with enthusiasm to commit themselves to the political engagement in their local and regional communities, as well as in national and supranational institutions.
 

Parliaments are the most authentic democratic representation of citizens. They don’t only have to legislate and to control their own Governments, but they also must interrelate to other Parliaments, for enhancing the understanding between peoples who love and share democratic values, above the short term economic, political, strategic interests of governments, alliances and blocs. 
 

This is what we call “parliamentary diplomacy », the fundament of the Parliamentary Assemblies of all European and international organisations, as well as of the bilateral relations between Parliaments, mostly organized under the form of the bilateral parliamentary friendship groups. 

FP-AP is struggling for this parliamentary diplomacy, and for the international exchange of common democratic values for the sake of peoples and nations.
