Press release – Ukraine

Updated: Dec 3

Paris, 21/02/2025

The Association Former Parliamentarians of the Council of Europe Member States ( www.fpap-europe.org ) – gathered at the General Assembly in Brussels under the presidency of Filippo Lombardi, former President of the Swiss Senate – debated on Friday the membership request of the Ukrainian Association Parliamentarians and developments of the war in their country.

While expressing their solidarity with Ukraine, the participants in the debate regretted that Europe, and more generally the countries that uphold parliamentary and pluralistic democracy, are no longer able to speak or act in unity toward a negotiation process that could quickly lead to a ceasefire and then to a lasting peace between Ukraine and the Russian Federation – an essential condition for ensuring the long-term security of all of Europe.

The FP-AP Association will continue to monitor the situation closely, calling for parliamentary diplomacy to play a role in the search for peace.
